Simon Whitby and Tanya Novossiolova from Bradford University have developed a course in applied dual-use bio security. Scientists across the bio- and life- science fields are publishing their research publicly all the time, but are they aware of the risks this information may pose if it falls into the hands of terrorists and rogue states? This course aims to make research institutions aware of the risks and issues allowing them to make informed and responsible decisions, balancing the needs of an open, peer reviewed scientific community with the inherent security security risks that can come with bio science research.
